Thanksgiving travel could be busiest since 2005

Plan accordingly, travelers. Next weekend, people all across the nation will have places to go and things to see on a level perhaps not seen in nearly two decades.

An estimated 55 million Americans will be either hitting the road or traversing the skies over the course of the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend, according to AAA.

Those numbers, if they pan out, would mark the third-busiest Thanksgiving travel season since AAA began tracking travelers.

Only 2005 and 2019 were busier than what’s expected between Wednesday and Sunday next week.

The robust expectations would signal another return to normalcy on the road back from the COVID pandemic, but they could also lead to frustration for some after two straight years of milder holiday travel traffic.
