When the Queen died, someone had to tell the bees – seriously!

SUE'S NEWS

The Royal Bees – yes, the insects! – have officially been informed of Queen Elizabeth’s death. Sue Thomas shared this information during Monday’s edition of Sue’s News on The Mark Reardon Show.

“This is real,” Sue said to preface the highly usual story.

In a tradition that dates back centuries, the Royal Bee Keeper, John Chapple, visited the hives that reside within the gardens of Buckingham Palace to tell the bees, in really hushed tones, that King Charles is their new master.

Chapple knocked on each hive and said, “The mistress is dead, but don’t you go. Your master will be a good master to you.”

He also placed black bows on each hive and asked the bees “to be good to the new boss,” according to Sue.

If this tradition isn’t carried out, there is a superstition that the bees may leave the hive and stop producing honey or die.
