A woman from Illinois has filed lawsuit against the restaurant chain TGI Fridays for “misleading its consumers.
The woman, Amy Joseph, filed the suit after discovering that her bag of TGI Fridays Mozzarella Sticks corn snacks actually didn’t contain any mozzarella, only cheddar cheese.
To be clear, these are baked chip-like snacks, not the frozen / fried mozzarella sticks you get at the restaurant. Joseph claims that TGI Fridays and Inventure Foods, the makers of TGI Fridays Mozzarella Sticks corn snacks, are misleading their customers by claiming these snacks contain mozzarella cheese.
While Inventure doesn't deny that there's no mozzarella in the snacks, the label on the packaging says they are "Mozzarella flavored corn snacks with other natural and artificial flavors," and on the back it says, "Each snack stick is loaded with the savory flavor of mozzarella cheese mixed with our signature spices."
Inventure also claims that Joseph is a "serial class action plaintiff," who "cherry-picked" only one part of the product's labeling.
According to USA TODAY, Federal judge Robert Dow Jr. granted TGI Fridays' motion to be removed as a defendant in the case because he found the restaurant chain’s only role in the product was as a licensor; he will be allowing the suit to continue against Inventure Foods.
Joseph’s lawyer, Thomas Zimmerman Jr., said to USA TODAY in a statement, “We are pleased with the judge’s ruling. The judge agreed with us that the claims in the lawsuit have merit, the case should not be dismissed.

“We intend to proceed against Inventure Foods on behalf of the nationwide class of purchasers of TGI Fridays mozzarella sticks.”
