Dan Campbell isn't here to wipe any butts: "You're gonna wipe your own butt"

In a few months, the Lions will take the field and create stories of their own.

Until then, their new head coach will keep making headlines.

So in case you were wondering, the dude who wants to gnaw kneecaps and take an actual lion onto the practice field isn't here to wipe his players' butts. They can do that themselves, thank you very much.

This was Dan Campbell's message to his team the day he arrived.

"Honestly, day one, I said, 'Look, I'm not carrying your toilet paper around. I'm not gonna wipe your butt. You're gonna wipe your own butt. You handle it and I'll treat you like men until you prove otherwise,'" Campbell told Michael Silver of SI.

By all accounts, the players have loved Campbell so far. His energy is a breath of fresh air after the draconian reign of Matt Patricia. Patricia too often spoke down to his players, as if they were children. Clearly, that won't be the case with Campbell.

Campbell's stunts and statements have drawn scorn from the national media, not that he's sweating it. He knows his reputation, and that of his team, will be determined by what happens on the field.

"I’m not worried about the criticism," Campbell said last month. "I’m going to get criticized either way. That’s what you guys do. That’s what you and everybody outside this world does. Ultimately, I’m going to be judged on wins and losses. Right now, I’m just being me. I’m having a good time with it."
