Karsch and Anderson: Should Lions trade up to No. 3 for Will Anderson?

Per Adam Schefter, "at least six teams" have contacted the Cardinals about trading up for the No. 3 pick in this month's NFL Draft -- presumably for a quarterback.

Could the Lions do it for a defensive end?

"The Lions should do everything they can, within reason, to move up to 3 and get Will Anderson," Gator said Monday on the Karsch and Anderson Show. "You want to have those bookends, Aidan Hutchinson and Will Anderson just wreaking havoc over the next eight seasons. With that defensive line, that looks like a great way to start."

The two-time SEC Defensive Player of the Year, Anderson racked up 27.5 sacks and 48 tackles for loss over his final two seasons at Alabama. Given his superstar potential, he'll almost assuredly be gone when the Lions make their first pick at No. 6.

Question is, what would it cost the Lions to move up three spots? Gator says he would consider using both of their first-round picks to get it done:

"I’ve gone back and forth of whether I would give up the 18th pick and be done with it, 6 and 18 to move up to 3, versus giving up one or both of the second-round picks they have, because that’s two players and I’d like to hang onto that. If you give up a second-rounder this year and next year, or a second this year and a third this year, I'd like to find a way to do that rather than give up too much capital from this year’s draft."

According to the traditional NFL draft trade value chart, picks Nos. 6 and 18 is a significant overpay for pick No. 3.

"Pick 48 and 81 gets it done," said Gator. "6, 48 and 81 gets it done to move up to three. And I would do that in a heartbeat."
