Blake Griffin and the Pistons have officially parted ways.

The two parties agreed to a contract buyout on Friday, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.

The agreement allows Griffin to become an unrestricted free agent with the hopes of landing with a contender. And for the Pistons, it takes his $39 million option for next season off the books.

Several of the top playoff contenders have already expressed interest in Griffin, who's "expected to make a decision on his next team ... in the near future," according to Wojnarowski.

Griffin, 31, hasn't played since mid-February as the Pistons searched for a potential trade partner for the six-time All-Star. But his contract and declining play made that an 'insurmountable challenge,' according to Wojnarowski.

Griffin is averaging a career-low 12.3 points per game this season as knee injuries have robbed him of the explosiveness that made him a star with the Clippers and early in his tenure with the Pistons.

He averaged 20.7 points per game over four seasons in Detroit, including an All-NBA performance in 2018-19 when he carried the team to the playoffs. Now he'll try to get back there somewhere else.
