As Scott Harris tries to add more bats to the Tigers organization, the club has acquired minor-league infielder and former second-round pick Joe Rizzo from the Marlins for cash considerations.
Rizzo, 25, spent all of last season in Double-A, hitting .277 with a career-high 21 homers and an .810 OPS. He's off to a slower start this season between Double-A and Triple-A, and will report to Triple-A Toledo with the Tigers.
A left-handed hitter, Rizzo is primarily a third baseman. He's also spent time in the minors at first and second.
In his first year as Tigers president of baseball operations, Harris is trying to overhaul an organization that lacks impact hitters at almost every level. The big-league club is last in the majors in runs scored for the second year in a row.
