In the prime of his career, it was something of a shock if Miguel Cabrera went more than nine at-bats between home runs.
Well, that may be hyperbole, but it sure was a lot shorter than nine weeks. That's how long it had been since Miguel Cabrera last hit a home run – more than 120 plate appearances since Game 1 of a doubleheader against the Braves on June 14.
But that all changed Tuesday night when Cabrera hit his second homer of the season, a 438-foot shot to left-center field off Minnesota's Bailey Ober.
And he seemed just as surprised as anyone.
That blast, his 509th career HR, tied Cabrera with one-time Tiger Gary Sheffield for 26th on MLB's list of career home run leaders.
It gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead in the second inning.
Prior to the game, the Twins honored Miggy with a hockey stick, No. 24 floppy hat, fishing gear and a donation to his charity.
