A dietician is saying one of the worst ways you can prepare yourselves for a Thanksgiving feast is by skipping breakfast entirely.

Kacie Delong, registered dietitian at kencko says that skipping breakfast to theoretically leave more room for later can actually “prevent you from becoming overly hungry later in the day, which can cause irritability and lead to overeating at the next meal.”

Overeating?  It’s Thanksgiving; isn’t that the point?

Per Mashed, Delong recommends a balanced breakfast Thanksgiving morning, something like “scrambled eggs with whole wheat toast, avocado, and berries,” as eggs are a great way to start the morning because “they help you feel full, and they tend to help cut the amount of food you end up eating later in the day.”

Again, it’s Thanksgiving.  Feeling full before the meal is not the goal here.

Delong does mention though that if your eyes are bigger than your stomach, one day will not hurt you in the long run.

She says, “Thanksgiving is one day, so try to let yourself enjoy those foods and the company of your loved ones. Drink some water and move on with your day, eating again at your next meal when you are hungry."
