Being a woman in 2024 looks more like being Superwoman – managing daily tasks like a pro, balancing family life with work and social relationships, and thinking up creative ways to make the world a better place. Phew! The word “fierce” comes to mind – just us?
Another guess we’ll venture is that while you give your all to others, you tend to neglect your own needs. If this sounds like you, Women’s Health Week is a great time to focus on your health, and our friends at Virtua Health are making it even easier by pulling together a few tips that can help you stay fierce about your health.
get plenty of sleep
The perfect day starts the night before, with restful sleep.
But with so many to-dos piling up and a phone that’s constantly buzzing away, how does one go about having a good night’s sleep every night? Two words – sleep hygiene. Similarly to taking time in the morning to shower, brush your teeth and take care of your physical appearance, the evening is prime time for winding down, detaching from your electronics, and creating a space of mental tranquility. You’ll be catching those Z’s like a pro in no time.
get active, stay active
Our world since Covid involves a lot of sitting, and then feeling the impact of that on your body. Crack! goes your lower back when you stand up from your office chair, and don’t even get us started on what sounds your knees make. The best way to care for your body is to nourish it with some physical exercise. That exercise doesn’t have to be strenuous, but it should be a consistent and enjoyable part of everyday life. Whether it’s looking forward to a scenic walk in the park after work or taking your dog out on your morning jog, if you get active, it’ll be that much easier to stay active.
protect your "me" time
Whether you’re an introvert or an extrovert, there’s nothing more important than your time alone with yourself, especially if your day involves engaging with a lot of people. Healthy “me” time involves a quiet environment to process your thoughts. As best you can, try to protect a quiet span of time at least one hour before you head to bed or after waking up.
You’ll really feel the difference, and that restful practice will cascade into other areas of your life.
Use sunscreen
You’re pretty fierce, but know what else is? UV rays. If you’re spending time out in the sun, don’t forget to bring a bottle of sunscreen to prevent skin damage and the potential of skin cancer. Always go for an SPF of at least 30 to make sure you’re getting the right amount of UV protection, and make sure to reapply every two hours or after swimming.
