The contentious situation with Jimmy Butler and the Heat has escalated in recent days, as the team has suspended Butler for "conduct detrimental to the team.”
As trade rumors swirl, the BetQL staff took a look at his next team odds and predicted where he might go if he is traded!
Dan Karpuc: Rockets (+500)
Per ESPN’s Trade Machine, this is one of the strongest potential landing spots for Butler from a financial perspective. The All-Star wing could be packaged with guard Terry Rozier in exchange for point guard Fred VanVleet, hard-nosed defensive wing Dillon Brooks and a couple draft picks, as a realistic example. Both FVV and Brooks would fit well into “Heat Culture” and since Rozier lost his job in the starting unit in Miami, a new landing spot would make sense for him along with Butler. The results of this trade would create the following rotations, which would make a lot of sense (when the teams are back to full health).
Houston’s starters: Terry Rozier, Jalen Green, Jimmy Butler, Jabari Smith Jr., Alperen Sengun. Houston’s bench: Amen Thompson, Tari Eason, Cam Whitmore
Miami’s starters: Fred VanVleet, Tyler Herro, Dillon Brooks, Haywood Highsmith, Bam Adebayo. Miami’s bench: Jaime Jaquez Jr., Duncan Robinson, Kel’el Ware
This move would make the Rockets stronger as they look to contend in the elite Western Conference while it’d begin a new era in Miami, where the team would stay afloat towards the middle of a weak Eastern Conference and would gain a couple more draft assets for the future.
Lucy Burdge: Suns +400
According to Marc Stein, the Suns are the team “most interested” in trading for Jimmy Butler and they would give him a “lucrative new contract,” so this could be enticing for Butler. He wrote, “Suns owner Mat Ishbia is believed to be as willing to sign the 35-year-old to a lucrative new contract as anyone you'll find.” As anyone you’ll find!!! And Brian Windhorst called the Suns “the best fit and most aggressive team for Jimmy Butler.” So I like the Suns with a little bit of value at +400 to be Butler’s next team.
Matt Horner: Grizzlies +300
To be fair, any team that takes on Butler is going to get a good player that has some serious baggage that comes with him. I guess that is what becoming a star does to you, as I don’t remember him being close to a diva in Chicago playing for my Bulls, but he’s still a very good player. The Grizzlies moving from 30/1 to 3/1 in the span of a few days means that someone clearly knows something about him being connected to Memphis, so I am going to follow that steam here and say they are the most interested in him. Jimmy Butler and Ja Morant on the same team, sounds like a recipe for success to me. No way that backfires for them, surely.
Kate Constable: Warriors +450
The Warriors have been hunting for another star to pair next to Steph Curry and Draymond Green for awhile. They inquired about Jimmy Butler in the offseason, so there is already some established interest. With older superstars, Golden State is in win-now mode, so the fact that they’d be acquiring another older player isn’t something that they’d necessarily shy away from. His playstyle also fits this Warriors roster with his ability to be productive off the ball. Trading for a ball-dominant player wouldn’t make sense to pair next to Curry, but Butler would fit in nicely.
