As we head into Tuesday, December 3, there are plenty of opportunities to capitalize on underdog value bets across the NBA, NHL, and NCAAB. From rising young talent in the NBA to NHL teams with inconsistent play, and a college basketball matchup that seems too good to be true, there are plenty of spots to target. Whether you're looking to back the Detroit Pistons to take down the Bucks, the Montreal Canadiens to upset the Islanders, or Villanova to pull off an upset against Cincinnati, I’ve got you covered with expert insights and predictions to help you make the most of today's betting slate. Let's dive into the best underdog picks for tonight's action.
NBA - Pistons (9-13) ML vs. Bucks (10-9): +140, BetRivers
Milwaukee has won five straight games to get themselves back over .500 on the year, and they are playing some very good basketball right now. However, I think that winning streak stops tonight against the rising Detroit Pistons. I say rising, because even though they are 9-13 and probably not a serious playoff threat this season, they have some great young talent that they can grow with in the coming years.
That starts with Cade Cunningham, who I expect to have yet another monster night for Detroit. He’s been unstoppable, averaging 23.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 9.0 assists per game. This is his chance to shine, as if the Pistons win this game, they win the group for the NBA Cup and advance to the knockout stage. That would be the biggest achievement for the Pistons in a long time.
Plus, I will NEVER trust Doc Rivers in a clutch situation, as he is the ultimate choke artist and one of the most overrated coaches of all time. Give me the Pistons at +140 to advance tonight, I think there is good value there.
NHL - Canadiens (8-13-3) ML vs. Islanders (9-10-6): +115, Caesars
The New York Islanders are not a very good hockey team, and I will continue to fade them wherever I find the opportunity too with a good price. It is possible that Patrik Laine will make his debut for Montreal tonight, and his elite offensive skill set will complement an offense that already has Cale Caufield and Nick Suzuki. While this isn’t a tremendous club, the Canadiens have shown some resilience at home, with a 5-5-2 record at home in Montreal.
The Islanders have shown a ton of inconsistency, especially on the road, and I simply don’t trust them. As a favorite this season, they are just 4-8 on the season, and they do not deserve that much respect on most nights.
Netminder Sam Montembeault has a good history against the Islanders, and the Canadiens are also much better on the power play with a 20.8% conversion rate compared to New York’s 12.9%. I like the value here at +115 for them to get the win.
NCAAB - Villanova (4-4) ML vs. Cincinnati (6-0): +150, DraftKings
There are several college basketball bets that I will be on tonight, and if you want all of them, you can read my favorite sharp sides of the night article I will have out later. I’ll give out one of them here, which is the Villanova Wildcats to get the win tonight against the Bearcats at home.
This is one of those games where the spread doesn't make a lot of sense, and every public square bettor is going to be on one side of this spread while the sharps will be on the other. Cincinnati is 6-0 and ranked No. 14 in the nation, and has won their last five matchups by at least 16 points. They haven’t even been in a close game, blowing out everyone they have faced. Meanwhile, the Wildcats are just 4-4 and a shell of the program they once were.
Yet, the line is just +3.5 here. The books are practically begging you to take the Bearcats at that number, as it is so obvious to most public bettors getting an undefeated ranked team at barely over a possession. I’ll gladly take Villanova at +3.5, and I think they have a great shot to win the game with this fishy line.
