NFL Underdog Picks for Week 16

Backing the Jets and Steelers as underdogs in Week 16 matchups.

Jets (4-10) +3.5 vs. Rams (8-6): -110, BetMGM

Betting on the New York Jets this season has been a very interesting experience, and when I say interesting, I mean terrible. They are just 5-9 ATS and have possibly been one of the most disappointing teams in recent memory. Fair warning, they have not been kind to me, but I just bet them once again this weekend against the NFC West leading Los Angeles Rams. I couldn’t resist the current number that is being offered in the market, as the amount of money and tickets backing the Rams here is going to be massive.

Los Angeles has won three straight games coming into this one, taken the lead in the NFC West, and also beat the Buffalo Bills in that span. You know what all of that adds up to? Massive public love for that team, and believe me, it’s as if the Rams have given everyone a love potion over the last month. Every analyst and pundit has said the sentence “Nobody wants to see them in the playoffs” this week. It’s basically a catchphrase at this point for sports media personalities. I’ll pass on that. They said the same thing last year, and I had the easiest time betting on the Lions against them in the first round.

Who is going to want to bet the 4-10 Jets as just a small underdog? Especially with how they never cover the spread? The answer: no one. Sure, they just beat the Jaguars in the closing minutes of the game last week. Congratulations, Jets fans. But there will be less than 30% of tickets and cash on this team this weekend, I can almost guarantee it. The books will want them to cover here, and I love fading teams that the public has fallen in love with.

Steelers (10-4) +6.5 at Ravens (9-5): -110, BetMGM

This one is maybe a bit square here, but the Ravens are a team that people seem to bet on every week no matter what the number is, so I feel comfortable enough putting something on it. Plus, Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin has been just about as good as it gets when his team is an underdog. Through his career, the Steelers have been absolute nails getting points, but even better when it is against their rival Baltimore.

Under Tomlin, the Steelers are a perfect 5-0 ATS as an underdog since Lamar Jackson became the starting QB of the Ravens. Jackson hasn’t covered a single time against the Steelers when he is favored over them. Plus, we all know the history of the Ravens as a big favorite, which they never seem to cover. The Steelers are getting nearly a touchdown here on the road, coming off a blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles last time out. Meanwhile, the Ravens crushed the hapless Giants 35-14 in their last game.

The same formula that I mentioned before can be applied here. I love fading teams that just had a crushing victory, like Baltimore, and backing teams off a crushing loss. Historically, they have been very profitable for me. As of right now, these are the only two underdogs that I have in my pending wagers, but I’m sure I’ll have more as the week moves along. Make sure to follow me on X for updates and for my link to where I track my wagers.
