The 2024 NFL season has reached the Conference Championship stage and four teams are looking to punch their tickets to Super Bowl LIX. The reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs are among the contenders and their star quarterback Patrack Mahomes is the odds-on favorite to win MVP of the title game. Have voters soured on Mahomes because he’s already taken home the hardware three times?
Mahomes is the favorite at +275 at BetMGM, but he’s not alone in the top spot. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, who’s favored to win regular season MVP, has identical odds. Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley rounds out the top three at +400. It seems like a Chiefs win will almost certainly result in a Mahomes MVP, though.
Mahomes was the odds-on favorite to win regular season MVP for a significant chunk of the year despite underwhelming stats by his standards while the Chiefs continuously won nail-biters. He tallied the second-lowest passing yardage total (3,928) and second-lowest touchdown pass total (26) of his career but was a major reason Kansas City pulled through in the clutch. It’ll likely take Mahomes losing or an otherworldly performance from another skill position player on the Chiefs to stop Mahomes from winning, as signal callers have won seven of the previous 10 Super Bowl MVP Awards.
There was an argument for Jalen Hurts to win the award when he threw for 304 yards and a touchdown while rushing for three scores in a 38-35 loss to the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII. Mahomes won out with 182 passing yards and three passing touchdowns, though. Voters might be tired of Mahomes, but Travis Kelce (+2500) might be the only teammate he has capable of stopping him from coming out on top if the Chiefs win. Here’s what BetMGM Tonight’s Ryan Horvat had to say about the situation.
