Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever Are Built to Contend After Offseason Moves

With key additions like DeWanna Bonner and Natasha Howard, the Fever are primed for a championship run.

The WNBA has been buzzing with blockbuster trades over the past month, reshaping rosters across the league. Brittany Griner is no longer with the Phoenix Mercury, Alyssa Thomas has left the Connecticut Sun, and Kelsey Plum has moved on from the Las Vegas Aces. But the Indiana Fever may have had the most impactful offseason overhaul.

With Caitlin Clark leading the way, it's no surprise that the Fever front office has been aggressive in surrounding her with top-tier talent to chase a championship. In a major three-team trade, they landed sharpshooting guard Sophie Cunningham and the 19th overall pick in the 2025 draft from the Phoenix Mercury. The deal sent forward NaLyssa Smith to the Dallas Wings and brought Satou Sabally to Phoenix. Cunningham's ability to stretch the floor and play at a high tempo perfectly complements Clark's dynamic playmaking.

The Fever didn’t stop there. They added six-time WNBA All-Star DeWanna Bonner on a one-year deal and brought back three-time champion Natasha Howard, who originally started her career with Indiana. Bonner has a strong connection with new head coach Stephanie White and brings championship experience from her time with the Mercury. Meanwhile, Howard adds defensive grit and championship pedigree, having won titles with the Lynx and Storm. She’ll form a formidable frontcourt alongside Aliyah Boston.

With these game-changing moves, the Fever now boast one of the league’s most competitive rosters. At +550, they have the fourth-shortest championship odds, trailing only the Liberty (+210), Aces (+210), and Lynx (+350). After winning Rookie of the Year last season, Clark also holds the second-shortest odds to win MVP (+240), just behind A’ja Wilson (+180). Indiana is officially a team to watch this season.
