There are many uncertainties regarding the future of Afghanistan. These uncertainties can, and have, caused a lot of stress on individuals whether they’ve served the mission of keeping peace abroad or not. Vigilant Torch Association (VTA) has been doing their due diligence to ensure their brothers and others affected are well-informed on the state of the matter as well as how to seek help if these burdens become too much of a weight to hold.

Recently, the honorary speaker at the 15th Annual Chenega Invitational retired Lieutenant General, now Chairman of the Board of VTA, Michael K. Nagata, had a pertinent message to share with those who are struggling with the ongoing situation.

In his message, Michael stressed that “you are not alone” in your feelings. Many are feeling frustrated, uneasy, and helpless in the situation, and at times, these feelings can become overwhelming. It is important to know that there are others in this same boat that could benefit from talking about it. He also speaks on the importance of checking in on your “battle buddies,” who may not be taking the current affairs lightly. We must all band together to make sure our loved ones feel heard and protected.

Two resources that are available 24/7 that he mentions are:
Military/Veterans Crisis Line: Call 1-800-273-8255, then press 1, or access online chat by texting 838255. It is confidential and serves all Active, Guard, and Reserve members as well as veterans and their families.
Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors: Call 1-800-959-TAPS.

Though VTA also attempts to keep current and retired servicemen and women informed and as banded together as possible, their main mission is to provide support to Active and Former Members of the Special Operations community who may or may not be fully served by other military support organizations. In their years active, due to the generous support of donors, VTA has been fortunate enough to donate $331,000 to military families in the form of emergency relief, scholarships, family maintenance and resilience assistance, and social activity support.

Chenega MIOS, a Strategic Business Unit (SBU) of Chenega Corporation, knows far too well the struggles that many military veterans and active military members go through. Many leaders of Chenega MIOS are retired military themselves, so the VTA mission is one that truly hits home. This was a main deciding factor when MIOS selected VTA as their beneficiary of the 15th Annual Chenega Invitational. In this, thanks to the incredible support of attendees and sponsors, MIOS is proud to have had the opportunity to donate $102,000 to the more than worthy VTA cause so that they can continue their mission of hopefully making the lives of our nations’ heroes a little easier.

Chenega MIOS, along with VTA, is honored to support our warriors. If you or anyone you know could benefit from one of the hotlines mentioned above or from the VTA mission, please be sure to send this message along. We must all be attentive and stick together by helping our neighbors. This too shall pass.
