Welcome back to D.C., Honor Flight!
The Honor Flight Network has resumed travel to Washington, D.C. this week after pausing its iconic trips for America’s veterans for over a year during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The past 16 months have been tough for our organization and the veterans we serve, but to resume our travel at a time when we could best ensure everyone’s safety has made the moment worth th4e wait,” said Honor Flight Network Board of Directors President and Chairman David Smith.
Honor Flight’s Chicago hub transported 112 veterans to the nation’s war memorials on Wednesday and held a brief ceremony at the National Mall’s World War II Memorial to mark Honor Flight’s long-awaited return.
Veterans making the trip included those who served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.
“This is so great, this is so great, this is so great,” enthused Korean War veteran Eddie Edmonds.

Currently marking its 16th year, the Honor Flight Network expects to soon reach the historic milestone of having served 250,000 veterans.
Honor Flight Network is requiring all 2021 Honor Flight participants to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or receive a negative PCR test within 72 hours of theIr trip’s departure.
HFN is also strictly following health recommendations from the CDC, the District of Columbia, and each hub’s state and local jurisdiction, and the masking guidance of all trip venues.
