The vehicle flipped over after driving into the tree.

One of the passengers died at the scene.

The driver and two other passengers – both sustaining life-threatening injuries – were taken to a local hospital.

The victim's name and age are being withheld by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office pending notification of next of kin. The crash is the 46th fatal such incident in San Jose this year, police said.

It remains under investigation.
