In the destruction of the fire, two people were found dead in a vehicle that was burned in a residential driveway on Doggett Creek Road near Highway 96. The Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office has not released any other information about the deceased, pending positive identification and notifications to next-of-kin.
The fire is burning mostly in a remote part of Siskiyou County, where Gov. Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency, and the Klamath National Forest.
Nearly 2,000 people have been forced to leave their homes in the area, including the city of Eureka.
Adding insult to injury, two arrests were made in the evacuation zone as one person was charged with possession of burglary tools and the other for burglary within the evacuation zone.
Meanwhile, firefighters are continuing to gain ground on the Oak Fire near Yosemite National Park. As of Monday morning, it is nearly 70% contained and some roads are even reopening.
