Officers responded to a call Monday evening at 6 p.m. of a carjacking at the large shopping center.
A woman in her 50s had been sitting in her car in the parking lot when a young man came in through the passenger side and demanded her purse and keys. Another suspect opened the driver’s side door and demanded the purse.
The woman handed her belongings over and ran off on foot, witnessing four suspects get inside her car. She was able to flag down a good Samaritan, who returned to the scene with her and watched the four suspects unsuccessfully attempt to start the car.
Realizing they were being watched, all four fled on foot toward El Camino Real. The woman was uninjured in the ordeal and was able to provide police with descriptions.
Soon after, the teenagers, three of whom are 16 and one of whom is 14, were detained at the downtown train station and taken into custody.
All Oakland residents, they are currently being held in Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall and are being charged with robbery, attempted carjacking and conspiracy.
Their identities have not been released due to their age.
