Just before 3:30 a.m., Vallejo Fire Association responded to reports of a fire at a storefront in the 600 Block of Marin St.
Crews arrived at the scene to find Anchor Pantry, a beloved gourmet grocery, ablaze. The two-alarm fire was contained to the front of the store, but a friend of the business wrote in a GoFundMe post that the store is a "total loss."
"An Arsonist tried to steal my dream last night, he was caught and arrested. A little comfort but it won't bring the store back," Anchor Pantry owner Jessica Brooks wrote in an Instagram post Tuesday morning.
A GoFundMe has been started to collect donations for Anchor Pantry to get back on their feet in a new location. The fire is particularly devastating as the business first opened just over a year ago. "Jessica and Frank have been invaluable members of our downtown community, bringing good food and good will to our town," GoFundMe organizer Karen Finley wrote. "To lose them is unthinkable."
Following an investigation by the Vallejo Police Department, 32-year-old Xavier Williams of Vallejo was arrested on felony warrant and arson charges. He was found two blocks away from Anchor Pantry and was booked into the Solano County Jail.
