Berkeley Police have arrested a 39-year-old man in connection with a series of antisemitic hate crimes.

The suspect, who wasn’t been identified, left graffiti referencing those of the Jewish faith at a private residence, a Jewish community center and a synagogue between April 29 and April 30, police said in a news release.

He also destroyed religious artifacts, drew a reserve swastika and "wrote several bizarre messages in English and Hebrew that referenced Judaism." Police said he also rearranged artifacts into shrines and stole some items.

The suspect doesn’t have a fixed address.

He was arrested May 3 in Berkeley’s Civic Center Park.

He’s been charged with burglary, vandalism and defacing or destroying property for the purpose of intimidating/interfering with the free exercise of any right/privilege secured to the person by the Constitution, which is considered a hate crime.
