A passenger had to be restrained after he appeared to punch a flight attendant, giving new life to the campaign "Assault Won't Fly." Police detained the passenger and cited him for battery before releasing him. According to a statement from the airline, the man has been banned from all future United flights.

An overwhelming 57% of flight attendants have experienced some type of assault from an unruly passenger. Assault Won't Fly is working to bring awareness to this fact.

"People mistake our generosity and our very happy and go lucky demeanor as an opportunity to disrupt," said Tyeesha Best, a JetBlue flight attendant.

The campaign is on a mission to remind those flying that flight attendants have a vital job to do while keeping attendants safe at work.

Best said the campaign was also enacted to drum up support for congressional action, like the Protection from Abuse of Passengers Act.

"The Protection from Abuse of Passengers Act allows for an unruly passenger to be banned on all domestic aircraft," Best explained.

"Flight Attendants are frontline essential workers, and we continue to face physical and verbal abuse," the Association of Professional Flight Attendants stated in a Call to Action. "We need the added the accountability of a TSA 'no-fly' list to protect all aviation employees and passengers."

Bay Area Congressman Eric Swalwell is a co-sponsor of the bill.
