San Rafael police received a 911 call about a possible shooting on Novato Street, Thursday just after 11 a.m.
At the scene, officers found a person lying in the street who had been shot in the back. The victim was conscious and was transported to a local hospital. An investigation revealed that two people were walking on Novato Street when they were confronted by two suspects, Edwin Mazariegos Rodriguez, 22, and Yordan Gonzalez Acevedo, 18.
One of the suspects pulled out a handgun which caused the two victims to turn around and leave. The suspects then chased the two victims around a building on Novato Street.
The suspect with the handgun called out the victim’s name and fired two rounds. One of the rounds struck the victim in his back and the other round missed the other person. The suspects fled the scene and hid in an apartment. The resident of the apartment, Ivan Pech Pinzon, 35, attempted to conceal them and assisted in trying to hide evidence.
After discovering the location of the suspects, officials surrounded the building. Authorities made contact via phone, and after some discussion, all three came out of the apartment and were arrested without incident.
Rodriguez was arrested and booked for attempted murder, conspiracy to commit a crime, a felon in possession of a handgun, and for being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition. Acevedo was arrested and booked for attempted murder and conspiracy to commit a crime. Pinzon was arrested and booked for aiding or concealing a felon and for an outstanding warrant.
