BART recently launched a virtual open-house where riders can submit feedback for accessibility improvements to multiple East Bay platforms before their station parking lots are replaced with apartment complexes, the agency announced Tuesday.

The online open-house, which commenced on July 2 and runs through August 20, will allow community members to both learn about the agency’s "Corridor Access Plan" and submit their own ideas about how accessibility can be maintained and improved.

The Corridor Access Plan will create "strategies for BART access by communities served by the El Cerrito Plaza, North Berkeley, and Ashby BART stations before roughly 2,500 affordable and market-rate homes are built on the stations’ parking lots."

BART hopes the plan ensures riders that all of the effected stations will remain accessible after the parking lots are replaced.

The housing project is expected to start early next year and be completed in fall, 2022.

BART's goal with the new development, in partnership with the other cities, is to "maximize housing near transit, improving sustainable transportation options to work, school, and recreation for people of all abilities and income levels."

The agency hopes this will lead to less driving, better traffic safety and limit greenhouse gas emissions which impact climate change.

The open-house acts similarly to an in-person meeting. Visitors can tour virtual rooms with different information about the plan and are encouraged to fill out a survey and interactive map to express their thoughts on how accessibility can improve.

Project staff will also hold "zoom office-hours" to directly answer any questions regarding both the plan and the open house.
