Arborists are overwhelmed with work following the massive storm that hit the Bay Area this past weekend, causing immense damage.

Just in Marin County alone, arborists, sometimes known as tree surgeons, have been cutting down hundreds of trees impacted by the turbulent weather. Ken Bovero, owner of Marin County Arborists, told KCBS Radio that it’s been nonstop, likening the work to "running around with his head chopped off."

"I usually split my time between here and Southern Oregon. There's no time, I'm staying here for the next ten days," he said. "I have ten appointments a day and it's relentless, I don’t see any break in this schedule."

Bovero has seen many powerful storms over the years, but this so-called bomb cyclone was different.

"This storm has been horrendous," he said. “The disasters that have come through with down trees, split trees, uprooted trees, fractured limbs throughout canopies… I haven’t seen anything like it, I’ve been here 41 years."

Preparing for future storms, property owners can avoid the pain, expense and danger involved with losing a tree by properly maintaining it, Bovero advised. Hiring certified arborists to examine the tree and prune it is necessary as well as regularly inspecting trees for signs of rot and distress.
