Solano County and the Sacramento Valley are under the Red Flag Warning starting at 11 a.m. Monday through 8 p.m. Tuesday night. Matt Mahle, Forecaster for the National Weather Service, told KCBS Radio winds will be gusting up to 35 miles-per-hour in some areas over very dry vegetation.

"It's not uncommon for us to have red flags warning and the dry conditions yeah know in late May," Mahle said. "Especially this year given that we had such a dry winter overall, humidities would not be surprised for them to drop down into the single digits by this afternoon for the central valley."

He said this dry, windy, warmer weather is a precursor of what to expect this summer.

"The long range that they have right now is predicting a decent warm up in the middle of June for a large portion of California so we are seeing a little bit of warm up this week, cold down next weekend but the long range forecast shows that summer is right around the corner," he explained.

Grass fires recently broke out near Pittsburg and in Fremont, but were quickly contained by fire crews.

Meanwhile, a Gale Warning has also been issued along the California coast from Sonoma County south to Big Sur. Open water boaters are warned to steer clear of hazardous areas.
