Police said the 12-year-old victim was on her way to a nearby elementary school when "an older black BMW, four-door sedan" heading south on Calistoga Road pulled a U-turn at Piedmont Drive and pulled over to the curb. The victim told officers the suspect opened the front passenger door, threatened her and tried to force her into the vehicle.

She was able to fight the suspect off and run home, police said.

The girl was not hurt.

The suspect is described as a white man in his late 40s or early 50s, 5 feet 8 inches tall, thin build and balding with a beard. Police said he was wearing a tan t-shirt "with an unknown emblem on the left side of the chest" and a pair of torn blue jeans. The vehicle apparently didn't have a front license plate.

Police said they're working directly with nearby schools to provide additional security over the next several days as the investigation continues.
