"Overall, traffic is running right around 90% of pre-pandemic levels if you look at it all day long," John Goodwin of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission said.

That's been the story for the last four months or so, what Goodwin said may be the new normal. "I think people are going to work at different times than they used to before and also maybe people are just out enjoying their afternoons," one driver told KCBS Radio, noticing more vehicles on the road later in the day.

The two big exceptions are the San Mateo and Dumbarton Bridges, still only around 70% of pre-pandemic levels, according to data.

That's because much of Silicon Valley hasn't returned to in-person work.

"I think that's a reflection particularly of large employers keeping their workforces remote," Goodwin added.
