This year however, it has been revealed that the founder and executive chairman of Capstone Event Group, which puts on the race, donated money to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, according to reporting by the San Francisco Chronicle.

Greene is notorious for spreading conspiracy theories and disseminating false information about the COVID-19 virus and various other issues.

According to the paper, John Kane of Capstone has donated at least $1,000 to the campaigns of various Republicans in the last couple of years, including $1,000 for Greene and $2,800 to Donald Trump.

Greene has come under fire recently for her past comments about the Jan. 6 insurrection, downplaying the events. A Texas group called Free Speech for the People has even gone so far as to file a lawsuit accusing her of fanning the flames during the insurrection.

She was elected in January last year to Georgia's 14th Congressional District. She is on the ballot for the May primary.

Greene had been slated to appear at the San Francisco Republican Party's annual dinner last November, but canceled last minute.

The 12-kilometer Bay to Breakers foot race is an embodiment of the city’s spirit, and has taken place on the third Sunday in May since 1912. People participating are known for dressing up in elaborate and colorful costumes as they traverse the city from Hayes Street Hill and finishing at Ocean Beach.

Capstone did not respond to KCBS Radio's request for comment at the time of publication.
