As supporters screamed his name and chanted "si se puede," Boudin jumped up on a beer keg with balloons attached to it to speak to the crowd so all could see and hear. "We have already won because we have redefined the way that people think about the role of the District Attorney's Office," he declared. "We represent the people when we stand up in court, when we fight for justice. It is not just about protecting the rich and powerful, it is about protecting everybody in this great city of Saint Francis."

Julie Edwards spoke for the friends of Chesa Boudin opposing the recall. "I think it sends a very dangerous message, not just to any future District Attorney, but any elected officials in the city of San Francisco that billionaire special interests will try to get a recall on the ballot and remove them from office if they step out of line," she said.

His critics said he was not tough enough on crime.

Now moderate Mayor London Breed will have a chance to appoint the next DA once the Board of Supervisors accepts the election results.

It was recently revealed through city ethics commission data that a Marin County-based political action committee was responsible for nearly two-thirds of all donations to groups seeking to recall Boudin and 45% of all monetary contributions in the race.
