SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – California's Great America will close by 2033 after the company owning the Santa Clara theme park announced it's selling the land on which it sits for $310 million.

Cedar Fair, a company that owns amusement parks such as Knott's Berry Farm and Cedar Point, announced the land sale on Monday. The company said it will operate Great America "for a period of up to 11 years and then will close existing park operations at the end of the lease term."
Prologis, a Bay Area logistics real estate company purchased the land for $310 million. The company previously purchased the land of the shuttered Hilltop Mall in Richmond.
Marriott opened Great America in 1976, selling it to Paramount 16 years later. Cedar Fair purchased the park in 2006, eight years before the San Francisco 49ers completed construction on and moved to nearby Levi's Stadium.
The City of Santa Clara sold the theme park's land to Cedar Fair for about $150 million in 2019, with city officials intending to use the sale's proceeds to pay off existing debt.
