Wednesday evening at 7:24 p.m. officers were called to the bridge about a pedestrian walking along the upper deck from San Francisco towards Oakland on the westbound side of the bridge, which is illegal.
When an officer made contact with the man, he refused to comply with verbal commands, which led to a physical altercation.
This is when several "good Samaritans," exited their vehicles to come to the officer's aid, and helped pin the man down so the arrest could be made, according to Andrews.
He was eventually taken into custody and has been charged with pedestrian unlawfully walking on the Bay Bridge, resisting arrest, and assault on an officer.
Both the officer and the man sustained minor injuries in the altercation and were taken to San Francisco General Hospital for treatment.
The whole situation caused a lane to be temporarily shut down, but was reopened just after 8:45 p.m.
