Ismael Alvarez, 34, and Francesca Charlene Lopez, 44, are being held at the Martinez Detention Facility for the Jan. 31 killing of Felipe Lopez, the Contra Costa District Attorney's Office announced Wednesday.

Francesca Lopez is the wife of Felipe Lopez, but it appears she was in a relationship with Alvarez at the time of the murder, prosecutors said. The pair have also been charged with two special circumstance allegations accusing them of murder for financial gain and murder in the course of a burglary.

Alvarez was arraigned Tuesday, while Francesca Lopez is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon in Contra Costa County Superior Court.

Alvarez is facing other allegations due to a prior conviction for attempted robbery in 2019.
