State, local firefighters stop East Bay highway blaze's forward progress

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – East Bay firefighters have halted forward progress on a vehicle blaze that burned nearly 60 acres and threatened multiple structures.

Officials said nobody was hurt and no structures burned in the Eden Fire, which started when a car caught fire at Eden Road and westbound Interstate 580 in Castro Valley on Monday afternoon. As of 7:21 p.m., CAL FIRE officials said the blaze was 30% contained after burning 50 acres.

The Alameda County Fire Department said at 5:44 p.m. on Monday that firefighters had stopped forward progress.

CAL FIRE officials said the Eden Fire, with a moderate rate of spread, had burned 10 acres as of 5:04 p.m.

It also threatened "some structures" off of Schaeffer Ranch Road, according to the state agency's Santa Clara unit.

Dublin officials set up a reunification center at the Shannon Community Center at 11600 Shannon Blvd. for residents who had to evacuate before reopening Dublin Boulevard through Inspiration Drive and allowing affected residents to return home just before 7:40 p.m. on Monday.
