The president of the women’s march Bay Area and a former San Jose City Council candidate has been sentenced to six months in jail for hitting and killing a 66-year-old man while under the influence.
Jennifer Higgins Bradanin was under the influence of prescription drugs when she veered into a bike lane days before Christmas in 2019. She hit a parked car, and 66-year-old Timothy Starkey standing nearby was killed.
The judge reduced Higgins Bradanin’s charge from felony manslaughter to a misdemeanor, sentencing her to six months in jail.
Starkey’s family was in the courtroom during the sentencing.
"To see the woman who killed my father in person is very jarring," said Starkey’s daughter Bridget in an interview with KPIX. Her family was disappointed in the sentence.
"It was a shock to all of us," she said. "What she took from us is immeasurable, and my dad’s loss will remain forever."
The accident happened on Blossom Hill Road in Los Gatos.
Starkey was near his truck, getting ready to help a friend put up Christmas lights when he was killed.
