Giants broadcaster Duane Kuiper to miss games while undergoing chemotherapy

San Francisco Giants broadcaster Duane Kuiper announced that he will miss some games while undergoing chemotherapy treatment for an undisclosed medical condition.

The long-time play-by-play voice of the Giants said in a statement that he still plans on broadcasting this season however he may miss more games depending on how he is feeling.

“Thank you for your prayers and for giving me the space and privacy to focus on my health at this time.” Kuiper said. “While this was not the adventure I anticipated, I’m staying positive for a quick and full recovery.”

The 71-year-old was recently named the 2020 California Sportscaster of the Year by National Sports Media Association.

“The entire Giants Family sends our love and support to Duane and his family during this challenging time,” the Giants said in a statement. “We know we speak for Giants fans everywhere in offering our prayers for a safe, speedy and full recovery.”

Kuiper played for the Giants from 1982-1986 and after retiring joined their broadcast team full-time in 1994. He and color commentating partner Mike Krukow are one of the most beloved and celebrated T.V. broadcasts pairings in the sport.
