Hewlett-Packard Enterprise leaving Silicon Valley for Houston

Hewlett Packard Enterprise is moving its Silicon Valley headquarters to Texas.

HPE announced Tuesday their new campus just outside Houston will open in 2022. The company's U.S. operations have been housed there for years, with its global headquarters in San Jose.

The company said it listened to workers, who say they want to spend less time in the office. That means the company can reevaluate where its physical headquarters are. "It’s been quite a year for all of us," a news release Tuesday said. "The COVID-19 pandemic has changed our lives in ways we couldn’t have imagined. It has changed our business as well."

The company also has locations in Austin and Plano.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott welcomed HPE with open arms.

The company said it's not expecting to layoff any of its workers who can voluntarily relocate.

HPE was once part of Hewlett-Packard, which was famously founded in a Palo Alto rented garage dubbed the "Birthplace of Silicon Valley" in 1939. It was split into two parts in 2015. The other company, HP, is still based in Palo Alto.
