Sacramento’s air quality worsened on Wednesday after smoke from the Dixie Fire migrated down from Northern California, but the Bay Area is expected to stay unaffected.
On July 28, National Weather Service satellite footage showed smoke streaming through Feather River Canyon then southward down the Central Valley.
The region was deemed unhealthy by the NWS Sacramento, prompting concerns from Bay Area communities that the smoke would also impact the air quality on the coast.
In a Twitter statement on Wednesday evening, the NWS warned that much of Northern California was still experiencing poor air quality. However, Thursday reports show that the haze has cleared up from Sacramento to the Bay.
Experimental smoke forecasts predict that air quality near Chico, Reno and Mt. Shasta will remain unhealthy, with smoke from the Dixie Fire continuing to travel into the Central Valley, but the Bay Area will not be impacted.
