A new ship-to-shore crane is on its way to the Port of Oakland this week.
The crane, which carries a lift height at 170 feet above the dock, will be delivered to the Everport marine terminal in Oakland, run by Everport Terminal Services, Inc. The large crane will enhance the infrastructure and cargo operations at Everport Terminal Services, port officials said.
"New container cranes help keep the Port of Oakland competitive so it can continue to attract and handle the largest vessels calling North America," a news release explained.
The crane is expected to arrive later this week, via a ship from Shanghai-based ZPMC. The ship will anchor near Point Reyes starting Monday.
The crew on the ZPMC ship will prepare the crane to ensure it will fit under the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges.
Once the ship-to-shore crane is delivered to the Everport marine terminal, it will take two months for the crane to be reassembled, tested and commissioned into service, officials said.
