Boudin has been plagued with accusations of mismanagement within his office and ineffectiveness in holding criminal offenders accountable for months now. Safer SF Without Boudin campaign is one of the groups calling for Boudin's recall and commissioned the poll of 800 likely voters in San Francisco over a week in February.
According to the poll, 64% of registered Democrats, 64% of voters under 50 years old and 71% of voters over 50 years old support the recall.
"Voters clearly know and believe that Chesa Boudin is failing to keep San Francisco safe," said Mary Jung, chair of the Safer SF Without Boudin campaign in a press release on Wednesday. "Hate crimes towards the AAPI community spiked by more than 500% in 2021 under Chesa's watch. Boudin doesn’t seem to care about AAPI victims – he has failed to provide language interpretation services in their preferred language and has yet to ever release a plan to address this horrific spike."
Along with the spike in crime, Boudin's management of his office has also been called into question.
"Over 50 attorneys have left since he assumed office and have been replaced by attorneys with little to no prosecution experience - a clear sign of his mismanagement," said Brooke Jenkins in the release, a former San Francisco assistant district attorney and volunteer spokesperson with the campaign.
According to the poll, overall, Boudin's unfavorability rating came in at 74% and 68% of people believe crime in San Francisco has gotten worse over the past year.
