
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – Authorities are investigating after a man riding a motorized unicycle was killed in a collision with a Recology truck early Wednesday in San Francisco's Hayes Valley neighborhood.

The incident happened near Oak Street and Octavia Boulevard at about 4 a.m.
Recology's collection truck was heading north on Octavia Boulevard "when it was struck near the of the truck by a motorized unicycle," Recology Spokesperson Robert Reed said in a statement to KCBS Radio.
San Francisco police have not confirmed that aspect of the story and referred to the victim as "a cyclist" in a release.
The unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the truck is cooperating as part of the investigation.
"Safety is Recology's paramount priority, and we are deeply saddened by the loss of life in this tragic accident," Reed said. "Our most sincere sympathies go out to the loved ones of the victim."
Drugs and alcohol aren't believed to be factors in the collision, police added.
Grief counseling has been set up for Recology employees.
