According to a post by the San Francisco Firefighters Local 798, the medics were sitting in an ambulance in the Mission District at around 6:50 a.m., when someone used a stake from a tree branch to smash the windows, trying to assault them.

"This is another ambulance out of service and two personnel who are rightfully, shaken up," the firefighters' union wrote. "This behavior in our City is not acceptable."
The suspect then stole the ambulance and began to drive laps in a Best Buy parking lot at the 1700 block of Harrison Street, San Francisco Police Deputy Chief Raj Vaswani revealed in a Twitter post. The two paramedics were chased by the ambulance as the suspect tried to hit them, he reported.
The ambulance was abandoned in the Best Buy back lot as the suspect fled the scene by scaling a fence.

Following the harrowing event, the San Francisco firefighters' union expressed their frustration in a statement.
"Last week our own union hall was broken into and ransacked. @SFPD responded and caught the burglar but not before he did thousands of dollars of damage. We have all (been) patient enough. It's time for some changes," the group said.
The ambulance cannot be used for a period of time as it is too damaged to operate safely. The paramedics were not injured. Authorities have not yet named a suspect.
