They arrived on the scene to find both a mother and toddler suffering major facial injuries and they were each airlifted by medical helicopters to local hospitals by 7:25 p.m., according to East County Today.

Police said their initial investigation suggested the mother was driving through a nearby Raley’s parking lot at a high rate of speed and proceeded to crash into a protective bollard in front of the fast food restaurant.

The front end of the Lexus sedan was destroyed. KTVU reported the driver had to be extricated from the vehicle.

It’s unclear whether the toddler was wearing a child safety seat. No other information, including the condition of the victims, was immediately available.

Officials are conducting a complete investigation. Anybody with information is asked to email OPD@ci.oakley.ca.us.
