Motorcyclist killed after driving off cliff along Highway 1

One person has died after a witness told CAL FIRE they saw a motorcyclist drive off a cliff along Highway 1 in San Mateo County.

That motorcycle reportedly ended up on the beach.

Fire crews used a rope system to bring the victim up the cliffside.

The incident happened at about 3:30 p.m. Thursday on a scenic stretch of road south of Devil's Slide near McNee Ranch State Park and Grey Whale Cove State Beach. California Highway Patrol confirmed the coroner was called and there had been a fatally related to the incident.

CAL FIRE said a hiker heard the crash and called 911.

People are being asked to avoid the area. CHP and Pacific Fire assisted.

The crash remains under investigation.

The victim has not yet been identified.
