The big cat was found in the area of Five Creek Trail and Crane Creek Trail just east of Eagle Park, according to the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety.

The agency announced at 10:47 a.m. that the animal was tranquilized "so she could safely be removed from the area."

Officials previously hoped the lion would move "back to her home on her own," before they decided to remove it themselves.

The sighting triggered a lockdown at Evergreen and Lawrence Jones Middle Schools as early as 8:04 a.m., each of which will be lifted shortly after the lion is removed.
