A mountain lion spotted in a San Mateo County backyard "slipped away" early Tuesday before authorities could capture the rogue animal.

Police advised those living in the neighborhood – located just off Skyline Blvd. in south Daly City – not to go outside or take pets out at about 6:55 a.m.

The big cat was gone by the time officials with the state's Department of Fish and Game arrived on scene in the 4100 block of Callan Blvd.

"Please be careful," police added afterwards.
