Jeffrey Choy was apprehended by U.S. Marshals in conjunction with Mountain View police after "a short foot pursuit" in Fremont just before 12 p.m. After working "around the clock" to locate Choy – whom police identified as a suspect "early on" in their effort – investigators learned he fled Mountain View and was later located in Union City.
Choy was taken back to Santa Clara County, where he was booked on charges of attempted murder of a peace officer.

"To say that I am proud of the around-the-clock work our teams did to find the man responsible for wounding our officer is an understatement," Mountain View Police Chief Chris Hsiung said in a statement following Choy's arrest on Sunday. "I am overwhelmed with gratitude at their sacrifice, I am in awe of their persistence and I am so thankful all are safe."
Just after midnight on Sunday, a patrol officer was conducting a "DUI enforcement" stop when Choy allegedly shot the officer near Villa Street and Wild Cherry Lane and then drove away, police reported. A short time later, someone reported that the suspect crashed the car at Higdon Avenue and Villa Street and ran from the scene. Despite an extensive search of the area, the suspect could not be located at that time.
The officer, who was hit in the upper body, was treated at a local hospital. "We're so grateful that our officer was able to walk out of the hospital (Saturday)," police said on Sunday. The officer was not identified.
In announcing Choy's arrest, police shared a screenshot from the officer's body camera depicting Choy in the driver's seat of his vehicle pointing a gun at the officer during the traffic stop, calling it "a snapshot of the realities of what officers can face on the job."

Several Bay Area law enforcement agencies assisted in the effort.
