A 58-year-old man has been charged with murder in the brutal killing of another man in Oakland last March.
The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office filed the charges against Andre Weston on Tuesday. The incident happened in the 500 block of Douglas Ave. in the Brookfield Village neighborhood after 8 p.m. on March 3, officials said.
According to Oakland police, there was a fight between Weston and the victim, 58-year-old William Vann. Vann was reportedly a transient thought to be living out of his vehicle at the time.
Investigators believe Vann was badly beaten, stabbed and doused with an accelerant before he was deliberately set on fire. Vann was taken to the Saint Frances Burn Unit in San Francisco, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries on March 8.
The burns covered over two-thirds of his body, reported The Mercury News.
"This horrific death was senseless and the person responsible is being held accountable," Oakland Police Homicide Investigator Robert Hardy said in a statement posted to social media.
It’s not clear what the argument was about.
