The unidentified boy – just 14 years old, according to KGO – was found at Mountain Boulevard and Keller Avenue just before 10:30 p.m.
Officers were initially dispatched to 98th Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard at about 10:15 p.m. following a SpotShotter activation, which advises police of possible gunshots and the area they could have come from. While at that scene, police said they were notified of a vehicle "that appeared to have been struck by gunfire" at Mountain Boulevard and Keller Avenue, which is about two miles away.
Unidentified occupants of the vehicle flagged down a passing ambulance, pulled the victim out of the car and then drove off, police added. Despite medical treatment, the boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

It wasn't immediately clear what led to the shooting.
His death is being investigated as a homicide.
The boy's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Anyone with information is asked to call Oakland police at 510-238-7950.
